Airports are important economic features for large and small towns alike. A recent surge in state and federal funding grants has allowed a renewed investment into airport facility enhancements and expansion. Sphere 3 assists airports with environmental compliance aspects of these growth initiatives.
When property acquisition is required to expand a runway or add more hangar space, an environmental assessment of the property is an integral part of the planning process. Sphere 3 provides experienced professionals for various tasks that are an integral part of property acquisition evaluations.
- • Phase I Environmental Site Assessment
- • Phase II Environmental Site Assessment
- • Wetland Delineation and USACE Permitting
- • Threatened and Endangered Species Assessments
- • Cultural Resources Surveys
- • FAA NEPA Compliance Documentation
- • State and Federal Agency Coordination
Each airport has unique aspects to its operation. FBO dynamics greatly influence the operations of an airport and assignment of responsibility for environmental compliance items. Sphere 3 works with airport managers to prepare customized environmental documents addressing the specific needs and flexibility of their airport. We also work with airport staff to maintain compliance through training and monitoring, and often assist with FBO communications regarding the airport’s environmental protocols. In cases where FBOs are required to have their own environmental compliance documents, Sphere 3 works directly with the FBO to assist them in attaining environmental compliance. Key environmental compliance items common to most airports include a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and a Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan. These plans need to be reviewed/updated on a regular basis to ensure modified operations are addressed and all required training, maintenance, monitoring, and record keeping are in compliance with the appropriate state and federal regulations.
